INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS BASED ON SCIENCE FOR OPTIMAL BRAIN HEALTH
A HEALTHY BRAIN HAS OPTIMAL SPEED AND PERFORMANCE
If you are sleeping your brain activity should be restful
If you are in danger your brain activity should be very fast
However, sometimes your brain may be persistently too fast or too slow, regardless of the situation.
If your brain keeps running at the same speed—that is the wrong speed, it can cause a number of very serious problems that you can’t control.
A healthy brain has an optimal speed of functioning and processing information.
HOW DR. SHAWNA FRESHWATER HELPS
Dr. Freshwater teaches you to train and optimize the functioning of your brain. The brain’s neuroplasticity enables it to be flexible, changeable, and dynamic. With scientifically proven brain performance training and brain exercises, you can re-wire your brain so that it is functioning optimally and healthy and younger. You can make positive changes to your brain structures AND the brain’s functional systems so that it operates better and you think efficiently and productively, and you feel better.
Dr. Shawna recognizes every person is unique and diagnosis may help identify why you are experiencing specific symptoms.
Dr. Shawna’s innovative treatment programs features the best in evidence based neuroscience, neuropsychology, clinical psychology, and mind-body holistic health. She works with you and your brain’s natural ability to learn, grow bigger neuronal networks, and function more productively.

WHO DOES BRAIN THERAPY HELP? EVERYBODY WITH A HEAD.
Whether you are have difficulty focusing, attention/concentration, learning new information, memory, depression, ADHD, anxiety, stress, or have experienced a concussion / head injury/ traumatic brain injury, or stroke (cerebral accident), then Dr. Shawna’s Brain Training can help anyone with a head.
BRAIN TRAINING HAS BEEN PROVEN TO HELP WITH THE FOLLOWING DISORDERS:
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) / Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Inattention. Distractibility. Disorganization. Impulsiveness. Restlessness. These are just a few common symptoms of adult ADHD or adult ADD.
While popular culture may cause you to believe that ADHD is only a condition that affects children, that is actually false. ADHD can be a serious issue for adults and, if left untreated, can lead to difficulties at work, depression, anxiety, relationship or marital problems, and even substance abuse.
Adults with ADHD have achieved improved concentration, better sleep and greater productivity through training with Dr. Shawna. Many of these individuals often go their entire childhoods undiagnosed — or misdiagnosed — and then as adults, wonder why they can’t seem to reach their maximum potential. Dr. Shawna helps these individuals identify and breakthrough the barriers that have been holding them back.
Symptoms of ADHD in Adults
No two people with ADD/ADHD are exactly alike, below are some behaviors that may be more prevalent among adults with ADD / ADHD.
- Difficulties with structure and organization
forgetting to pay bills, coming into work late, missing appointments, or needing constant reminders about due dates, etc., adults with ADHD tend to be very “scatterbrained.” They often have trouble sticking with a single task, and may bounce around from task to task, inhibiting productivity. - Struggling to relax or be still
Some adults who suffer from ADHD may show the more traditional signs of hyperactivity, while others simply find it difficult to relax or “turn their brains off.” This could manifest as being easily distracted or fidgety. - Poor listening skills or trouble retaining information
Has your mind ever trailed off during meetings or long conversations? Adults with ADHD experience this all the time! This could be a problem for you if you are frequently forgetting details of an assignment at work, forgetting information a friend or loved one told you, struggling to follow instructions or experiencing instances of miscommunication with peers. - Procrastination
adults afflicted with this condition seem unable to sit themselves down and focus enough to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines. Job performance may be difficult, especially if it is not an interesting task. - Forgetting to do something or a lot of mistakes
Forgetting to do big things, and little things…take forever to finish…and making many mistakes.
- Hyper-focus
While some adults with ADHD can seem sloppy at work, others seem to be paradoxically hardworking. This is due to the tendency to hyper-focus on a task once they are able to get themselves “in the zone.” While this may not seem like a bad thing at face value, hyper-focusing can make them unaware of their surroundings, unable to change direction as priorities or expectations shift, or neglectful of other tasks and commitments.

Anxiety linked to ADHD
Many children and adults diagnosed with ADD or ADHD actually have an anxiety disorder. Therefore, prescriptions with stimulants based on a ADD or ADHD disorder is not the best course of action. Dr. Shawna is a neuropsychologist who performs detailed assessment to determine underlying causes.
STRESS or Overwhelm
Many people function in a perpetual state of crisis—whether actual or just imagined or perceived. Everyday activities, such as parent responsibilities, work responsibilities can trigger a stressful response. That is similar to a Flight or Flight or Freeze response. Neuroscience shows electrical activity in the brain is running too fast under Stress.
Stress can lead to a range of conditions—many very serious, including the following:
- Insomnia
- Anxiety, obsessive thoughts, restlessness
- Change in appetite, upset stomach
- Change in sex drive
- Dizziness, migraines
- High blood pressure, cardiovascular disease
- Allergies
- immune system compromise
Stress releases hormones
The brain automatically reacts to stress by releasing hormones that produce a variety of physiological changes—racing heartbeat, faster breathing, tense muscles, high blood pressure. Stress also induces the release of cortisol, a hormone that causes our cells to demand more sugar. This can cause cravings for starchy, sugary food, leading to unwanted weight gain, especially around the midsection. If the stressful responses to your daily activities are constant, your brain never has a chance to recover.
Learning and Memory
Memory problems are thought to be synonymous with aging. However, research shows that is not necessarily true. In fact, we now know it is possible to grow your brain and address the effects of aging in a few month’s time.
It is depressing to think about your brain shriveling (atrophy) away over time, the awesome news is: the brain has an incredible capacity to change and learn. New research has shown through a combination of lifestyle changes and other interventions, it may be possible to slow brain atrophy.
Dr. Shawna will show you how age really is just a number. Dr. Shawna will develop a customized regimen of rigorous brain training to help you tackle your unique mental sharpness goals. Dr. Shawna combines a comprehensive, educational, catered to you program. Most importantly, through a more anatomically and functionally younger brain, you may experience improved new learning and memory, as well as better sleep, focus, mood, mental clarity and overall improved cognitive performance.
Like any good engine, your brain wears with age. It doesn’t recharge as well. However, you can take care of your brain just as you can take care of the rest of your body. You have the ability to either neglect your brain, so that it steadily deteriorates; or improve it, so it can function younger and healthier year after year. Research has shown therapies to increase the volume of white matter and gray matter in the brain, including those regions responsible for memory and learning.
If you do not take care of the health of your brain, neuroscience shows that after age 40, that parts of the brain responsible for memory shrink by about 0.5% each year. Some lifestyle choices you make — or other health conditions you suffer from — can speed up this natural brain atrophy (shriveling), such as the following Brain Shrinkers:
- Diabetes
- Sedentary life style (no exercise)
- High blood pressure
- Insomnia or poor sleep hygiene
- Sleep apnea
- Concussion / head injury
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Stroke / cerebral vascular accident
- Heart attack / heart disease
- Obesity
- Depression
